glór has assembled a stellar line up of performances to suit all tastes this winter, with the very best local, national and international acts travelling to the venue to entertain Co. Clare.
Music greats for the local venue include the likes of Sean Keane in his festive Christmas by the Hearth show, A Night With the Stars Christmas Special featuring Brendan shine, Declan Nerney, Ray Lynam, Mick Flavin and Michael Collins. Dave Flynn’s Irish Memory Orchestra, joined by the newly formed Irish Memory Choir will perform an exceptional night of music and song mixing Irish traditional, classical & jazz music in memorised performances in A Celtic Christmas on December 8th. More festive favourites with violin sensation Vladimir Jablokov, joined by special guest star soprano Claudia Boyle and guest star tenor Sean Costello, as well as many members of the multi-talented Jablokov family, as he brings a seasonal glow to some of the most beautiful classical melodies from the Romantic era in A Viennese Christmas on December 16th. In the new-year, the venue has the usual stalwarts like Tommy Fleming, The Kilfenora Céilí Band, Mike Denver, the annual showbands show, Reeling in the Showband Years and Eddi Reader returning with her captivating voice and superb performance.
Theatre for the coming months includes Mary and Me, a compellingly original and often humorous imagining of a young woman’s search for understanding and meaning at a time of turmoil in her life and Clarecastle native John O’Donovan brings us his acclaimed debut play If We Got Some More Cocaine I Could Show You How I Love You.
As always the venue has a host of children and family events included for the winter season. Bring the kiddies along on December 9th for a fun-filled sing along with everyone’s favourite princesses at our Frozen sing-along with face-painting, fancy-dress and some very special guests. Ballet Ireland bring their contemporary take on Romeo and Juliet to the glór stage, for ages 8+, and of course, Pantaloons take to the stage with their 15th production, Cinderella, joined by Sparks Hip Hop School.
Clare Arts will feature prominently as always and there’s a raft of talented students hitting the stage in the coming months, including DanceMasters annual showcase, Clare Youth Trad Orchestra, Rice College and St. Flannan’s College Trad Club.
glór’s major group exhibition, Halcyon Days, continues in the gallery and is the perfect place to pick up a superb piece of Irish art with work to suit all tastes and budgets. Pop in and have a coffee in the on-site Italian café and a browse around this unique and wonderful exhibition.
A cracking Christmas in store at glór and plenty of great ideas for Christmas gifts!
