Christy Mahon, (Joe Varden), believes he has killed his father with a blow of a loy and ‘split him to the knob of his gullet.’ Hailed as a wonder for his bravery he has women fighting over him and he wins the heart of Pegeen Mike, (Saoirse Byrne), much to the dismay of her intended - Shawn Keogh, (Jackie Scanlan). When Old Mahon, (Hugh Gallagher), returns however, the tables turn and chaos ensues.
